Himalayan Kitten Types and Colors

It may not seem like it to those who are new to loving Himalayan kittens, but there are actually different kitten types and colors to choose from. In the case of kitten types, there are TWO main Himalayan kitten types to choose from – the traditional and the extreme. As the names suggest, the “traditional” Himalayan kitten is a more “relaxed” incarnation of the breed in terms of features while the “extreme” incarnation tends to exaggerate the pug features of the Himalayan kittens (this is mostly preferred in show cats). Needless to say, owners who desperately love their cats tend to favor the traditional Himalayan type of facial feature in their Himalayan kittens – they are less prone to eye and ear infection problems after all, and it is agreed that they look far sweeter and cuter compared to the extreme type.

Both Himalayan kitten types come in many different colors, of course, but these colors are limited to the permissible colors of the Siamese cat – meaning to say that they have generally pale-colored fur with darker patches at the “points” such as the nose, ears, legs and tail. The accepted colors are lilac, lilac-cream, seal, chocolate, chocolate-tortie, blue, blue-cream, cream, flame and tortie.

To help you have a better grasp of what the different Himalayan kitten types and colors look like, we will be posting a mini gallery in this section that shows examples of Himmies of each type and color. There is nothing up here yet, but we will be updating soon.
